Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies

This guide provides an introduction to the resources for the study of Russia, Eurasia, and Eastern Europe available at Duke University Libraries.

Key Databases

Key Journals

  • JSTOR -- gives Duke subscribers access to the full runs of several leading English-language journals, such as Slavic Review and Russian Review. For best results, conduct an "advanced search" and use the "journal filter" to narrow results by "Slavic Studies."
  • Central and East European Online Library -- digital archive that provides access to full text PDF articles from humanities and social science journals on Central, Eastern and South-Eastern European topics.
  • East & Central Europe Database provides access to full-text academic journals published by scholarly organizations and educational institutions in the East and Central Europe region. Subject areas include business, science, technology, engineering, medical, social sciences, education, arts, literature, and history.
  • Журнальный зал -- an online "periodicals reading room," with freely accessible issues of recent Russian-language periodicals, such as Novoe literaturnoe obozrenie; Duke has a subscription to many of these titles via Eastview's Databases of Social Science and Humanities Publications.
  • Electronic Journals Library -- the "Slaovnic journals section" of this University Regensburg Library guide offers a quick way to see what journals are online; which ones are free; and which ones are only accessible via a Duke Library subscription. For the latter, search the Duke online catalog.
  • Russian History Index (World Wide Web Virtual Library)
Alphabetical list of journals dealing with Russian history and Russian history journals, including online journals and Table of Contents services. This curated list is a joint project between Società Italiana per lo Studio della Storia Contemporanea Web Site and the European University Institute's Library and History & Civilization Department..
