Brill's Encyclopedia of Hinduism

Brill's Encyclopedia of Hinduism is a comprehensive reference resource, with entries on a variety of subjects from gods to geography. Each entry includes a bibliography for further study.
3 volumes of the planned 5 volume set have been released, with volume 4 forthcoming in 2012 and volume 5 set to be released in 2013. Each volume is organized around a particular subject:
Volume 1: Regions, pilgrimage, deities
Volume 2: Sacred texts, ritual traditions, arts, concepts
Volume 3: Society, theology, biography
Volume 4: History, philosophy, knowledge traditions, interreligious contact
Volume 5: Symbolism, diaspora, modern issues
Encyclopedia of Hinduism

Although not as comprehensive as Brill's Encyclopedia, this serves as a great complementary resource. The entries are generally short, but suggestions for further reading are provided for more information.
Guide to Hindu Religion
Call Number: Ref BL1202 .D455 1981 c.1 in Divinity

This book provides bibliographies for a wide variety of fields of study in Hinduism, whether it's Indian dance, the interaction between Hinduism and politics, or many others. Because the text was written in 1981, it does not contain any recent scholarship. However, it may provide good resources as a starting point for study.
Historical Dictionary of Hinduism
Call Number: Ref BL1105 .S847 2011 in Divinity

This dictionary provides definitions and explanations of many Hindu terms, figures, and concepts. An excellent introduction is provided, giving historical context to the religion. Since it is a dictionary, entries are not as comprehensive as the encyclopedias, but this is a great resource for quickly checking the meaning of a term.
