Viewing Equipment in Lilly

To view film and video resources, we provide:

1 code-free Blu-ray player (plays DVDS and Blu-ray discs from the U.S. and other countries)
1 multi-format VCR (plays videocassettes from the U.S. and other countries)

Lilly’s viewing stations are located in the Few Reading Room on the first floor of Lilly, room 113.
To view materials on u-matic, or 16mm, please contact David Felton via email or by calling 919-660-5954 to see what arrangements can be made.
The Music Library is equipped with a laserdisc player for your viewing pleasure.

Duke-affiliated patrons can access titles in these streaming video platforms anywhere, anytime. A full list can be found here.

AVON (Academic Video Online) This link opens in a new window
Find and watch streaming video titles across multiple Alexander Street/Proquest collections on diverse topics and formats that include feature films, newsreels, documentaries, field recordings, interviews and lectures. Producers include Sony Picture Classics, CNN, PBS, BBC Worldwide and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Some individual collections from Alexander Street/Proquest are also listed below, for example, Asian Film Online, Black Studies in Video, Dance in Video, etc.

Projectr presents a curated and ever-expanding collection of acclaimed movies, archival restorations, award-winning documentaries and artist-made works from around the world. Distributors include Grasshopper Film, Women Make Movies, Distrib Films, MTV Documentary Films, and Canyon Cinema.
Swank Digital Campus This link opens in a new window
Swank Motion Pictures provides online streaming access via their Digital Campus platform to movies from major motion picture studios. Titles are available for online streaming when requested by an instructor for use in a course and are available to Duke users for a limited time specified in the database.

Films on Reserve for Class

To request films for course viewing outside of class, please use our Place Items on Reserve form linked from our Course Reserves page and choose the "streaming video" option at the bottom of the first screen. More information about this service is available on the first page of the form.

To request films to show in class, use the same online form and choose the "classroom showing" option. We will then have the DVD or blu-ray or 16mm film checked out to you and ready for pick-up at the library service point of your choice at the date you specify.
