The term grey literature refers to research that is either unpublished or has been published in non-commercial form. Watch this video to find out more: 

You can use general search engines to search for this kind of literature. If you are using Google, here are some tips:

• add .gov to your search to search only government sites 
• add filetype:pdf to your search - reports are often published as PDFs
• Add words like 'white paper' or 'working paper' to your search

Duke University Library has a list subscribed databases that provide access to grey literature. 

You could also explore these free databases: 

• Bielefeld Academic Search Engine (BASE) searches over 130 documents from over 6,457 sources.
• NGO Search retrieves publications from the sites of hundreds non-governmental organization (NGO).
• Open Grey holds references to over 700,000 pieces of European grey literature.
