How to find books located at DKU Library (in 30 seconds)

Requesting book chapters from Duke University Library

You can request PDF copies of book chapters from books located at Duke University Library. Follow these steps to do so:

  1. Locate the book you need via the Library search engine and click the title to open the complete book record.
  2. Locate the Table of Contents tab (see screenshot below).
  3. Once you locate a book chapter you need, go to the Interlibrary Loan page, click Request a Title, and after logging in, enter the details of your book chapter. 

The chapter will be sent to your email address within a few weekdays. 

Finding and using ebooks

To view an eBook you find in the Library collection, click the View it Online button:

Important points: 

  • Some eBooks can only be read online (i.e. they cannot be downloaded). 
  • Some eBooks are available for PDF download (usually chapter-by-chapter)
  • Some eBooks require the installation of free software called Adobe Digital Editions.

Reading a call number

PR Find the PRs.
6063 The numbers following the letters are read as a whole number. Ex. 6063 comes after 6055. 
.C335 For the next part of the call number, go to the letter(s) and then treat the number(s) as a decimal. Ex. .C335 comes after .C3
Z42 Read the next line's numbers as a whole number. Z42 comes before Z46
2006 The final number, if included, is the year of publication.This book was published in 2006.
