Accessing Duke University Archives Materials

The Duke University Archives, part of the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library, is the official repository for the historical records of Duke University. Visit our website to learn more about us!

The materials described in this guide may be used in the Rubenstein Library's reading room.

You'll want to do two things to prepare for a visit to the reading room to look at materials. We ask that you make these preparations at least four weekdays before you plan to visit!

  1. Reserve a seat to work in the reading room.
  2. Place requests for the materials you'd like to look through during your research visit.

If you don't make it through everything in one visit, don't worry--we'll keep things on hold for you for two weeks! You'll just want to make additional appointments to continue working with your stuff.
