Hello!

Welcome to the library guide for Gender and Popular Culture with Dr. Kimberly Lamm.  This guide is designed to provide resources and tips for conducting library research for your assignments. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact your course librarian, Danette Pachtner.

Basic searching - LIBRARY.DUKE.EDU

Locate books, films, recordings, journals, and more using the Books & Media search.  Start with a keyword search, and narrow results using the column on the left.

Search TRLN to find and request books from our consortial partners, UNC-Chapel Hill, NCCU, and NC State.  Delivery to campus is usually only 2 business days.

Can't wait?  You can use your Duke Card to check books out anytime if you make the trip yourself to partner TRLN libraries!

Try WorldCat to search most North American libraries simultaneously;  use "get it @ Duke" to request what Duke doesn't own via Interlibrary Loan.  Allow 2 weeks on average.

How to request a book that's checked out or housed at the Library Service Center (LSC)... here's an online tutorial.

Citation Management

Check out these sites for tips on citing sources:

Research 101

Click through 6 short tutorials  that give an overview of libraries & accounts, finding books, finding articles, citing sources, advanced search, evaluating sources and then take the Research 101 library review and see how you do.

The Evaluating Sources section includes discussion of Scholarly vs. Popular.
