Energy at Duke

Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability

The work Duke's Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability has absorbed the work of the Duke University Energy Initiative (EI), which was launched several years ago. As they explain on their website, "The Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability at Duke University accelerates solutions to critical energy and environmental challenges, advancing a more just, resilient, and sustainable world. ... The Nicholas Institute’s work is aligned with the Duke Climate Commitment, which unites the university’s education, research, operations, and external engagement missions to address climate challenges."

Duke provides an Undergraduate Certificate in Energy and Environment through the Gendell Center for Engineering, Energy, and the Environment at the Pratt School of Engineering, which also provides an Undergraduate Minor in Energy Engineering. An Energy Data Analytics PhD Student Fellows program is affiliated with the Nicholas Institute’s Energy Data Analytics Lab, and  Duke’s BassConnections program includes several Energy & Environment teams.

The Nicholas Institute's website provides an extensive list of links to energy-related data sources, particularly datasets that have proven useful in Duke energy research projects. This guides will discuss some more key sources for finding energy-related data.
