AMES 284K Kunqu, the classical opera of globalized China: Online Resources

Founded in 1988 and incorporated in 1989, the Kunqu Society is a non-profit corporation with the mission of studying, preserving, and promoting kunqu.

Chinese Opera Information Centre (abbreviated as COIC) is commissioned by Hong Kong Arts Development Council (2000-2014) and implemented by the Music Department of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The Centre has been established since 1 March 2000 and is devoted to collection and preservation of Chinese Operas archival materials.

This course will focus on the historical and cultural background, literary aesthetics, music, and performance of Kunqu, China’s classical opera. After viewing the lecture videos presented by scholars and renowned maestros in the field of Kunqu, students’ understanding and appreciation of Chinese performing arts, classical literature and traditional culture will be enhanced.
