Database Tips

Click on Research Databases from the Libraries homepage. Enter database name (see resources above for starting points), or click Find Databases by Subject.

Click on Get it @ Duke to locate the full-text for items you find in the databases. A box will pop up and tell you if the item is available online or in print.

Not available through Duke? Request it from another library using Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery.

Search in these databases to find articles and book chapters on your topic

Off Campus Access

Off campus access to research databases and online journals is only available to current Duke students, faculty, and staff.

Most researchers use EZ-Proxy.  Some databases require the use of the VPN.  VPN may also work in cases when EZ-Proxy does not.

  1. Start at the Books & More, Articles, or All search, or follow a  link.
  2. A pop-up window will ask for your NetID and password.  Once logged in, you will be able to access any library resources online for the rest of your browser session.

  1. Go to
  2. Select 'Library Resources Only' as the 'Department' and sign in with your NetID and password.
  3. If this is your first use of the VPN, software will automatically download to your computer.
