Guide to Behind the Veil Digital Collection

Restrictions in the Digital Collection

Prior to the digitization and publication of the Behind the Veil the entire collection required reprocessing and organization of the materials. Through this work the project team evaluated the permissions forms collected from interviewees along with surveying the project records for personal information that might otherwise be considered for restriction. This might include personal addresses and phone numbers, medical information, social security numbers and payment information to the interview team. After this work was completed, the digitization project team in collaboration with technical and research services colleagues in the Rubenstein Library, Duke University copyright librarians, and the project's principal investigators made key decisions about what information would not be published in the digital collection.

Restricted Interviews -

Interviews that are not published in the collection were done so because of specify restrictions placed on the interview by the interviewee. These interview can be requested for reproduction (see ordering reproductions section of this guide)

Restricted Administrative Files -

Administrative files in the collection are not published because they contain personal information of both the interviewee and the interviewer. These files can be requested for reproduction (see ordering reproductions section of this guide)
