What search terms will you use to find information related to your social issue topics?

    • Request Forms
    • Research Tools

    Browse databases by subject to zero in on the literature in your discipline.

    Research By Subject to find guides specific to your topic.

    Subject Headings

    Use the Advanced Search of the catalog for best results.

    Note the subject headings that come up on the left of your results; click on them to narrow your search or use them in different combinations in a new search.

    Also called DESCRIPTORS in some databases, these terms ensure that your search is relevant.

    Try the following in the catalog and databases, designating subject heading/ descriptor as the field to search.

    Use them alone or combined with other tems using AND:

    • nonprofit organizations AND management
    • globalization
    • microfinance
    • needs assessment
    • health care OR healthcare
    • humanitarian assistance, human rights
    • sustainable development
    • world health
    • sources [add to other subject keywords to find primary sources in the catalog]
