Japanese postcards

A postcard from 1910 showing a very western image. Pet  Animals were rare in Japan.

This patriotic image probably dates to the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905 when postcards became popular motivational tools for the Japanese public.

S. Marimuttu, of Kovilpatti, Tamilnadu with two of his paintings, one to be printed as a "framing picture" and the other "for a hotel". The layout for the photo was the artist's choice, suggesting that the devotional and the decorative co-exist easily in the world of popular art. (from Tasveer Ghar)
