Durham Resources for Service Learning: Getting Started

Guide prepared for Service Learning Program workshop on resources about Durham, September 2011.

This guide will help instructors of service-learning courses at Duke to find resources about Durham North Carolina.  Use these resources to help your students get to know Durham as they work with community partners in service-learning courses.  I look forward to working with you!

Subject Librarians

What can your subject librarian do for you?  As you plan your service-learning course or experience, call on your subject librarian to support your students through, for example, a hands on library session that will give them the skills they need to research issues related to their course content and community sites;  an online LibGuide (like this one) to point students to useful and credible resources; and research consultations with students who need more assistance.

Use this list of subject librarians to find the librarian who serves your department or program.

Here are some tools that students can use as they prepare research projects about Durham.
