Collective Subscription of Korean e-resources: Other Databases

Naver News Library

Naver News Library <http://newslibrary.naver.com>, which is freely available to overseas libraries and institutions, but by IP authentication only.

Naver News Library  is a full-text Korean newspaper article database containing the following four major newspapers:

-          Tonga ilbo東亞日 = Dong-A ilbo : 1920-1999

-          Kyŏnghyang sinmun  京鄕新= Kyunghyang Shinmun : 1946-1999

-          Maeil kyŏngje sinmun每日經= Maeil Business Newspaper : 1966-1999

-          Han’gyŏre 한겨 = The Hankyoreh : 1988-1999

Its full-text keyword searching and navigating functions are quite powerful, and display options in three ways - original text, Han’gul version text, and original images – are available to users.  Quality and legibility of the original newspaper images is also impressive, even for old newspaper issues in 1920s.

By IP authentication, overseas library users do not have to use their individual login ID and password for advanced searches.  Naver generously offers free services to overseas libraries and institutions by IP authentication, in consideration of  potential obstacles and difficulties in creating individual Naver IDs and passwords by foreign scholars and students.

Please submit your library’s IP addresses using the attached IP application form to Naver newslibrary@nhn.com for this free service.
