Country Information

  • Economist Intelligence Unit (w/ Full Text Articles) -- Provides (in PDF and/or HTML) an overview of economic, political, market, investment, and trading conditions for countries in all regions of the world.
  • BBC News Country Profiles -- BBC online guides to history, politics and economic background of countries and territories, and background on key institutions. They also include audio and video clips from BBC archives.
  • International Country Risk Guide -- The PRS Group's International Country Risk Guide provides nineteen years (1984-2003) of annual risk ratings for 140 countries. This is a historical data set that is not updated.
  • Country Studies -- online versions of books previously published (1988-98) in hard copy by the Federal Research Division of the Library of Congress under the Country Studies/Area Handbook Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of the Army, focusing primarily on lesser-known areas of the world or regions (101 countries and regions ) in which U.S. forces might be deployed.  This Web site also contains brief, more up-to-date Country Profiles on select countries.

Atlas of Eastern Euopre -- online version of 1990 atlas published by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. More recent political and shaded relief maps are available on Europe Maps page of the University of Texas' Perry-Castañeda Library Map Collection.
