How to search the catalog

You can find books on a particular topic by selecting to search by SUBJECT.

Examples of helpful SUBJECT headings include:

Hispanic Americans The term Latino/a is not used. Hispanic Americans is the official SUBJECT heading.

Peru The names of countries are SUBJECT headings.

Latin America Regions such as Central America, Latin America, Andes Region, Southern Cone of South America are used.

Mexico - Social Conditions Country names and specific subjects such as social conditions, history, politics can be combined.

THREE CATALOGS

Duke Libraries   Click on the "Books & Media" tab and search using an appropriate keyword. Scroll down the results and find a book on your subject. Click on that title and then on the "Subject" tab. The subjects listed there should lead you to additional resources.

Triangle Research Libraries Network  Contains the catalogs of Duke, NC Central Univ., NC State Univ., and UNC- Chapel Hill. If you find items you want that are not at Duke, click on the truck icon and request the item. It will be sent to Duke within a day or so.

WorldCat  Contains the catalogs of over 70,000 libraries worldwide. Items that are owned by Duke will have a Duke Libraries icon. If you want an item that is not owned by Duke, click on the "Get it at Duke" button and then click on "University Patron" and submit the form that comes up. The Duke Document Delivery Department will be notified of your request and will try to obtain the item for you.
