Auction databases

Artnet.com Price Database - Duke subscribes to the auction ("Price Database") component. Click "Search Database". Fields to limit include artist, medium, auction house, etc. Individual prices must be downloaded serparately; there is no way to download a group. Extensive auction information, dating back to the 1990s.
Art Sales Index - Duncan Hislop's online auction results. Indexed over 3.5 million auction records for paintings, prints, photographs, sculpture, works on paper, and miniatures dating back to the 1920s. Over 200,000 artists from more than 500 auction houses worldwide are represented. Free registration required.
Scipio - useful for tracking down individual works of art, especially provenance. Only citation of individual catalog, not auction information itself. Most catalogs could be obtained through inter-library loan. Duke no longer subscribes to this database because of cost. Please see art librarian for similar kinds of searches.

World collectors annuary (WCA). Vol. 1 (1946/49)- 1995. Delft, Brouwer. Lilly ND47 .W6 - best retrospective data for 20th century. Paintings only.
Gordon’s print price annual. 1978- New York, N.Y. : M. Gordon Inc., Lilly NE85 .G67 - most comprehensive data on print auctions sales. Issuing timeframe in uneven, however.
Davenport’s art reference & price guide. 8th ed., 1996/97 Folsom, Calif. : Davenport’s Art Reference, c1994. Lilly Reference N8675 .D38 1994 - wide variety of media and geographical auctions. Unfortunately, Duke only holds a few years, most complete run is at UNC Chapel Hill.
