Finding Scholarly Editions

Composer scholarly editions are arranged alphabetically by composer in the M3 section upstairs in the Music Library.

Oxford Music Online and the Index to Printed Music can help you locate your pieces within scholarly editions.

Look in the Works List for individual composers in Grove to find where pieces are located in composer scholarly editions. Grove helpfully provides the edition, volume number, and even page numbers where you can find each individual work.
Index to Printed Music This link opens in a new window
IPM indexes both composer scholarly editions and scholarly series (such as Recent Researches in the Music of the Baroque Era). Like Grove, it gives you complete information about where you can find the piece you're seeking. IPM enables you to search by composer and individual work.

To find recordings in the library catalog,

Go to the Music Library home page
Click on Scores Only in the search box, which will limit your search to music recordings.
There is also a list of links to online scores under Online Scores / Sheet Music

WLSCM (Web Library of Seventeenth-Century Music)
Open access, peer-reviewed modern editions of 17th century scores under the auspices of the Society for 17th-Century Music. Founding editor is Duke University Music Department emeritus professor Alexander Silbiger.
New Mozart Digital Edition
Scholarly edition of Mozart's complete works, including extensive critical commentary for each volume. This edition is also available in the Music LIbrary in print, M3 .M9392 1955.
Complete works of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach
Online scholarly edition of CPE Bach's works, also available in print in the Music Library M3 .B103 2005.
Sibley Music Library Musical Scores
Excellent source for digitized scores representing a wide range of periods and genres.
EEBO : Early English books online
Known primarily as a source for texts from 1400-1700, but the database also contains a large number of music prints which you can find using an Advanced Search.
IMSLP (Petrucci Music Library)
Wide selection of online scores, but one caveat is that the source is often not specified.
